  1. Search for Neutral MSSM Higgs in the  decay channel at CDF Cristobal Cuenca Almenar The Joint Meeting of Pacific Region Particle Physics, Hawaii, October 31st 2006

  2. MSSM Higgs bosons • MSSM is a SUSY model with 2 Higgs doublets • 5 Higgs bosons: h, H, A, H+ and H- • 2 parameters,MA and tandescribe theMSSMHiggs sector

  3. Neutral MSSM Higgs production • Production cross section enhanced by ~tan2 with respect to SM Higgs • Two main processes:

  4. 3%,  3%, ee 6%, e 41%, hh 23% he 23%, h MSSM Higgs decay:channels • Branching ratios of MSSM Higgs • bb: ~90% • : ~8% • Despite having a smaller BR, the  signal is cleaner and can probe both main production mechanisms. • Rich decay spectrum of : • Leptonic:  ll, with l being an electron or a muon (35%) • Hadronic:  Xh, with Xh being a set of hadrons (65%). • For this search we focused on he and h

  5. Hadronic tau reconstruction • Match • a seed track (pT>6GeV) to • a narrow “jet” (< 1/3 of cone 0.4) • Define a • (shrinking) signal cone • isolation annulus

  6. Tau reconstruction efficiency and Fake Rates • Tau reconstruction efficiency • Estimated from MC • Jet to tight tau fake rate • Jet samples used • QCD (jet) background is estimated from fakes

  7. Event selection:l + h • Total branching ratio of l+h: 46 % • We require 1 tight tau and 1 tight lepton • Extra event level cuts to supress QCD and Wl+jet(s) backgrounds • Main backgrounds: • Z  • QCD (fakes)

  8. Fit • We fit Mvis (mass of the “visible” products of the Higgs) • Profile likelihood as a function of the signal cross section. • Then, we find 95% CL points

  9. Limits 95% CL limit on the cross section  branching ratio • 487 events observed • 496.1 ± 28.2 predicted

  10. Results • Interpretation of limits in two MSSM model • This limits were calculated after fitting 310pb-1 of data.

  11. Improvements for 1 fb-1, I • We’ll add the e channel and loosen up some cuts • Projected sensitivity (MC!!)

  12. Improvements for 1 fb-1, II • Exclusive processg b  b Higgs  b  • Make use of collinear approximation to fully reconstruct the invariant mass • More news soon!!
