  1. Hair Dryer Hovercraft Team 2 Patrick Aldred Ravi Arimilli Charles Hudson Brittnee Robinson Aileen Zhao

  2. Ideas Considered • Quiz Bowl Buzzer System • Rejected due to lack of time • Sun Oven • Yeah, right • Hair Dryer Hovercraft • Only other viable idea that we could think of

  3. Hovercraft In Action

  4. Materials • 4 Hair Dryer Motors • 2 Boxes (attached with duct tape) • Duct Tape & Masking Tape • Foam Core • Surge Protector • Trash Bag

  5. How It Works • The hair dryer motors blow air into the box, creating a high pressure • The air is forced to exit into the trash bag • The small holes on the bottom of the bag keep the air in the bag at a high pressure • The air escapes to a much lower pressure outside the bag, creating a strong lift force from the air pushing off the ground

  6. 60 Amperes needed 6,400 Watts supplied Easy to move around Can load a maximum weight of 10 lb Power Features

  7. Design Details • Each face of the attached boxes only has to support 1 hair dryer motor, minimizing the stress on each face • The motors are offset so that they will not blow into each other and work against each other

  8. Attempted Improvement • Remove the heating coil • The hot air might cause some problems and all we need is air • Failed and caused an electrical shock of some team members, but luckily, these team members survived and were unharmed
