  3. Drug programs The "New" D.A.R.E. Program Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention The Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program, the pioneer prevention effort founded in Los Angeles in 1983. The program targets school aged children and educates them on the dangers of drug use. D.A.R.E. officers are trained as "coaches" to support kids who are using research-based refusal strategies in high-stakes peer-pressure.

  4. Problem • Over the last 40 years many people experimented with some kind of drugs. • This means even many of the parents, teachers and leaders of today have used at onetime or another. • What effect does that have our today's children?

Past Presidents of the U.S.A • Clinton – admitted to using marijuana but said he "never inhaled”. • Bush-refused to comment on if he had ever used Marijuana or Cocaine • There is some evidence that he was arrested for Cocaine position in 1972 BUT charges where never brought against him. • Obama- In a book he wrote in 1995 he admitted using drugs in college. • "Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it," wrote Obama about what he would later say were "bad decisions." "Junkie. Pothead. That's where I'd been headed: the final, fatal role of the young would-be black man."

  6. Location • Drug usage is in every part of America. • Unfortunately many drug distributors target poorer inner-city neighborhoods as places to sell drugs. • If you live in this area you grow up with drug usage all around you.
