  2. What is Pneumonia? • Definition: Lung infection in which the alveoli sacs are filled with fluids and pus • Common types: • Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) (most common) • Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia (HAP)

  3. The Symptoms • Common symptoms: • Similar to the symptoms of a common cold/flu • Coughing with phlegm (greenish/yellowish mucus) • Chills • Shortness of breath • Experiences chest pain when breathing or coughing • Fever

  4. Causes of Pneumonia • Virus • Bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae Human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) • Fungi Pneumocystis jiroveci

  5. Diagnosis and Treatment • Abnormal breathing sounds: crackling • Chest x-ray • Vaccines and antibiotics • Hospitalization if needed
