  3. Introduction • 12th year teaching 4th grade in TVES • Dual certification- regular and special education • Grew up in Buffalo, New York • 3 children- Lucas, Alec, and Samantha

Daily Schedule • 8:00-8:25- Morning Procedures • 8:20-9:55- Reading (90 minutes) • 10:00-10:30 Science / Social Studies • 10:35-11:20 Specials • 11:25-12:10 RTI (3 days Math- 3 days LA) SSR & T3 • 12:15-12:45 Writing • 12:53- 1:13- Lunch • 1:13-1:38 - Recess • 1:40-2:40 Math • 2:40-2:45 Dismissal

SPECIALS WEEK A WEEK B DAY 1: Music DAY 1: Computer DAY 2: Library/Computer DAY 2: Art DAY 3: Gym DAY 3: MusicDAY 4: Science Lab DAY 4: Gym DAY 5: Art DAY 5: Science Lab DAY 6: Gym DAY 6: Library *PLEASE REMEMBER TO WEAR SNEAKERS ON GYM DAYS, BRING LIBRARY BOOKS DUE ON LIBRARY DAYS, AND TO BRING YOUR RECORDER TO SCHOOL ON MUSIC DAYS. * WE WILL WRITE DAILY REMINDERS IN OUR ASSIGNMENT PADS

  6. Core Reading • 6 day cycle based on Common Core • 90 minute block 30 minutes shared reading 60 minutes – broken into 20 minute intervals rotating between small group instruction, independent tasks, and independent reading

  7. Writing • Working within a writer’s workshop model with mini lessons, application of writing crafts, sharing, and editing/revising • Focus will also be given to writing prompts. • Reading –writing connection to be highlighted

  8. MATH • New Common Core changes for Math: more focused on problem solving, authentic math tasks, and perseverance. • This year students will be grouped according to their needs and classes will be switching within our team- Mrs. Sabetta, Mrs. Ayotte, Mrs. Scasino, and myself. • Each week a 5 minute fact test will be given. Students will progress through all four operations. (+, -, *, /) • Assistance with homework: practice facts, play math games, and check homework. If your child is having too much trouble- send in a note- don’t stress!

  9. RTI(Response to Intervention) • All students will participate in RTI • They will be placed according to benchmark assessments and CMT data • Days 1-3 Math RTI • Days 4-6 Reading RTI • Groups will be adjusted as needed • Parents will be notified if child is in Tier 2 or 3

Science and Social Studies • Students are switching classes for instruction. • Additional time in schedule for Science lab weekly • Units of study include • Science/Health: Germs and Nutrition, Electric Circuits, Motion and Design, Land and Water, and Ecosystems. • Social Studies: Map skills, Regions of the United States, Culture of Middle and South America

Invention Convention 2013 • Who participates in Invention Convention? • ALL Fourth Graders! • Teachers will be supporting students in the early stages during Science Lab. • Why are we having Invention Convention? • The Invention Convention provides TVES fourth graders with opportunities to develop critical-thinking and problem-solving skills through invention and innovation, instilling the creative spirit in students today and for the rest of their lives.  • When is the TVES Invention Convention? • The convention is held in April. • Information regarding the convention will be going home around January.

  12. Homework • Consistent homework schedule - Math and Language Arts each night. • Written homework not given on Fridays. Exceptions will be studying for upcoming tests and make-up work from absences. • Students are encouraged to read for pleasure daily!

  13. Snacks and Water Bottles • One healthy snack is encouraged • Snacks are a part of our working morning • Please have snacks nut free! • Water bottles are to be filled in the morning • Reminder- water only in the bottle!!

  14. Additional Tidbits • Summer reading logs- Due Friday September 7th! • Friday folders • Test Prep Fun • PTO membership- PTO meeting TONIGHT- please come! • Room parents • Committee sign-ups
