Carle Hospital • Benefactors from Carle raised money to install a rock wall in the King gymnasium • Community Care Discount Program • for "medically necessary services" • provide discounts, help determine best payment method/plan, solves any problems with insurance • applications available at hospital in both English and Spanish • eligibility based on family size and income (chart on next slide)

ACCESS Initiative • Champaign County, Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration, Illinois Department of Human Services, and Champaign County Mental Health Board • Work with Urbana Unit 116 Schools and other local institutes • Help youth impacted by juvenile justice system or who have social/emotional/behavioral problems • Youth Planning Board--young leaders represent the youth voice • Youth Engagers--experts from major areas of focus, who advocate for youth issues and provide guidance • Family Leadership--family support and education • Parents Promoting Presence Network--parent representatives affected by these issues

12. Physical Spaces King Park • Located next to King School • Use for class work (insect collections) • Open daily, from dawn to dusk • Parking available next to King School, with CUMTD stops nearby • Includes: play areas, sports fields/courts, picnic area/pavilion

13. Busey Woods • 59 acre forest preserve with trails and ponds • open daily from dawn to dusk • 1970 Urbana Park District began to use and manage the woods • since the early 90s, the park district has worked hard to bring the woods to a more natural state

ESL Programs in Urbana & Champaign • English Center USA - (located at the University YMCA on campus) offers full-time and part-time programs designed to develop English communication skills • Project READ (thru Parkland) - free tutoring service for adult learners to improve reading & writing; tutor in public locations • Urbana Adult Education Program - (located north of Downtown Urbana) offers classes that focus on listening, speaking, reading and writing from beginning to advanced levels

Douglass Community Center • Located right by the Champaign Public Library • Open 7 days a week - utilized by many King students & families • Fully equipped with a full-size gym with 6 basketball hoops and a stage • Used for informal and organized programs & activities • Originally established in 1941 to raise funds for facilities in the black's community due to segregation at the time • Gov't agreed to offer a federal grant in 1943 and the new facility was completed in 1945

Champaign Public Library Douglass Branch • Located in Douglass Park • Open Mondays through Saturdays • Offers many services as the Main Library - free events for all ages, public computers with Internet access, a large meeting room, etc. • Different programs available - cooking classes, book clubs, storytimes, etc. • First organized in 1970 in the Douglass Community Center, and named after Frederick Douglass • Moved to another building in 1997 which allowed for more storage space

18. Family Resiliency Center • Located on Nevada Street near CRCE • Dedicated to help families with life's challenges • Centers on 4 themes: • Child & Family Health and Wellbeing • Child Care as a Resource • Immigrant Families and their children • Positive Child & Youth Development

Immigration Clinic at Carle • Helps provide the necessary documentation needed to change immigration status • Must be tested for tuberculosis and syphilis • Reviews personal and family medical history, especially issues with substance abuse • Offers assistance in bill payments through their Discount Program based on the family's income and other insurance payments, like mentioned earlier

20. East Central Illinois Refugee & Mutual Assistance Center • Main purpose is to help the resettlement of refugees and immigrants, (regardless of country or origin) in the East-Central Illinois area • Help preserve their cultures • Some of the offered services include: • ESL tutoring • Assistance in completing paperwork needed for citizenship, residency, family reunification, etc. • Community education about immigrant and refugee issues in the Champaign County • Counseling

21. C-U Immigration Forum • Online blog @ http://immigration-forum.blogspot.com/ • Made up of a group of immigrants, students, service providers, labor union reps, local residents, and community organizers who are concerned about the immigrants in our community • Celebrate the diversity & culture that immigrants bring to the community • Help advocate for rights of immigrants and promote positive changes that will hopefully improve the quality of life in their community • Hold community meetings to talk about different issues regarding policy changes for immigrants
