  7. The Scottsdale Idea New York and other examples as inspiration not emulation. Connect Indian Bend Wash to Papago Park with an uninterrupted park. 1.6 miles. At grade? Elevated? Middle of McDowell Road? Adjacent? Meandering? Conclude at a new amphitheater south of McDowell Road in Papago Park. Where? Create a compelling new recreational amenity that sparks key economic activity on McDowell Road. Largest piece of art in Scottsdale: Signature new element for South Scottsdale after so much investment in the North. Not a stalking horse for light rail. Made possible by a future public bond vote in conjunction with associated non-profit efforts. If successful, there would be a national design competition and a decision made by an Independent Citizen’s Committee.

  9. Scottsdale Republic OUR VIEW “Scottsdale, a city shaped in large part by titanic home runs of creativity, has been slumping at the plate recently.” “Not since the initial efforts to establish the McDowell Sonoran Preserve has the city really knocked one out of the park, with execution of an idea giving out-of-towners a reason to visit and residents an opportunity to feel some newfound pride in their city.” Scottsdale Republic | Opinions on November 9, 2012 http://www.azcentral.com/insiders/SREditorials/

  10. Considerations • Indian Bend Wash to Scottsdale Road: Approximately $25 million. Scottsdale Road to Papago Park: Approximately $45 million. • Phasing or all at once? Start in which direction? • Ballot Initiative. When? • Revised Proposal based on community feedback • Design Council - Each member of Council to appoint: (1) Architect, (2) Resident south of Thomas, (3) McDowell Road property owner, (4) Scottsdale Public Art, (5) Urban Planner, (6) member of Council, and (7) Mayor. • Questions & Answers
