  2. To follow the project through its phases. • The project organization needs tools for : • Project Milestone follow-up • Workpackage management • Documents/Drawings management • Equipment management • Configuration management & Change Control Management Tools - The Project Planning Design Purchasing Production Installation

  3. Management Tools - The Project • & Effective Communication Channels • Web Portal • Meeting Management Tool • Audiovisual Systems • Web Lecture Archival • Mailing list • Scientific Notes Workflows • Collaborative documentation tool Planning Design Purchasing Production Installation

  4. Management Tools - Configuration Control Management Tools are “indispensable” to permit engineering communication throughout the project which shall : • Implement common language and common rules (Quality Assurance Plan) • insure coherence, data control and integrity In particular we have to ensure that all further technical changes are controlled with the appropriated mechanisms. The process must be defined in consistent way for reviewing, approving, implementing and reporting technical The Engineering Change Request (ECR) is required if the proposed change will : • Have an impact upon ATLAS detector overall performance • interfere with other systems • result in significant cost and/or schedule changes • has an impact on safety.

  5. Management Tools - Configuration Control ECR Process 1- ECR is created via a Document Management system (name, deadline, description of changes,..) 2- Data entered are stored in a database entry 3- E-Mail is sent automatically to the PL in charge of the affected item 4- PL examines the proposed change / accept or reject the proposal 5- The ECR is considered to be valid : Proposed changes are reviewed and consolidated 6- E-Mail is sent to all involved individuals 7- The ECR is extended with the list of activities which has to be proceeded 8- For internal change the ECR is approved at the System Level / for external change - at the Co-ordination Level 9- The Approval Group concludes with giving its opinion approving or rejecting the order 10- After approval the completed ECR is used as an ECD to inform all individuals in charge about the change implementation ECR Preparation in EDMS Creation phase Requester Control Quality Manager, System Project Leader Internal/ General ECR ? Evaluation phase Technical Coordination Internal : PL General : TC Approval Approval phase ECR Approved ECR Rejected Notification phase

  6. Management Tools used by ATLAS Project Milestone follow-up : (Microsoft Project)Workpackage management : (Project Progress Tracking) Planning Documents/Drawings management (EDMS/CDD, CAD) Design Change Control (EDMS + Web) Expediture Tracking (CET) Purchasing Equipment Management (GLANCE) Production Installation & Web Portal Meeting Management Tool Audiovisual Systems Web Lecture Archival Mailing list Scientific Notes Workflows Collaborative documentation tool (developed with Dreamweaver) (Indico) (Meeting Facilities, Vidyo) (Lecture Archives) (eGroups) (CDS) (TWiki)
