  1. BIOMASS By Jerel Jackson

  2. How is Biomass turned into useable energy? There are three ways to convert biomass into energy: • Thermal —The oldest and most common way is to burn biomass to create heat. • Thermochemical —By heating (but not burning) plant matter, it is possible to break down biomass into gases, liquids and solids, which can be further processed into gas and liquid fuels like methane and alcohol. • Biochemical —Adding bacteria, yeasts and enzymes to biomass liquids causes biomass materials to ferment and change into alcohol.

  3. Locations biomass is being used in the world? Global

  4. Pros and cons of using biomass? Pros: • Made locally with minimum cost • Renewable • Does not depend on Fossil Fuels • CO2 neutral • Promotes energy independence • Converts waste into fuel • Offers hope of rual regeneration • Produces green house gasses • Cons: • Large areas of land are needed to create enough electricity to make biomass efficient. • Some materials are not available all year around. This is the biggest issue with crop wastes • The geography of a country limits the types of biomass used to create energy. • If biomass is over used, than deforestation and other environmental problems can develop. This has happened in less developed countries that use a lot of wood for heat.
