Early referral GCS of 5 Multi-disciplinary Huddles Donor Management Donor Management for The Bedside Nurse 4 CEs offered twice a year Debrief all cases Identify process improvement opportunities for both hospital and OPO Medical Record Review on a monthly basis Review for missed potential both organ and tissue Review for tissue compliance (all deaths referred and referred within one hour of death) Collaborate on the Donation Development Plan – strategic plan to guide the donation process within the hospital to ensure that we meet our donation metrics 100% referrals 75% Conversion Rate 10% Donation After Cardiac Death 3.75 Organs Transplanted per Donor A Team Approach

  5. What Challenges Do We Face? • We are a community based hospital which doesn’t see trauma • Our physicians are less acquainted with organ donation process • Weekends and evenings are resource poor

  6. Process Improvement Initiatives: • Arranged for a Peer to Peer discussion with the Neuro Science Committee to discuss Best Practices for determining brain death and working with families for the best outcomes • Introduced the Donor Management Class for the Nursing Staff • Rewrote policy • Housewide education on Clinical Triggers • OR in-services for both BD and DCD donation cases
