Interventions of ABF At the level of public services, governments and official organizations ● For the acceptance of the burn pathology ● Improving the reimbursement situation of burn victims: ☛on the medical field ☛on the social field ☛ on the economical field ☛on the legal field ABF is founding member of EBCA

  5. Actions of the ABF ● Permanence in rehabilitation centers ● Permanences in thermal cure centers ● Permanences in burn centers ● Training in schools for nurses (IFSIS) ● Participation and intervention in medical congresses ● Organizing social events like cultural and sporty events

Legal support for burned people Free legal support in the ABF headquarter On the medical-legal field, the lawyers of AFB together with medical and burn experts have allowed ABF to: Increase the level of « indemnisation » Obtain a new statute for burn patients To obtain the official acceptance of the scars as a parameter of invalidation

  7. Psychological support service ABFsupports the patient during care and after care period ABF brings in social support Free and personal psychological support by means of professional psychologists of the ABF is offered to burn patients and their families

  8. « MAQUILLAGE » service Free maquillage service can be used by the burn patients « maquillage » allows the burn patients to re-establish their own identity

  9. Prevention service Important aspect in the field of burns and its treatment, is the prevention. In that aspect: ABF is a member of the « Commission Nationale de Prévention Incendie » ABF works in cooperation with the European directorates and structures

  10. Communication ABF has its own magazine: le journal des brûlés (JDB) ABF has regular contacts with media (press, TV, radio, …) and helps them on a regular basis on burn topics. ABF intervenes on burn topic conferences all over the French territory ABF participates in European conferences on burns

  13. Secretary services at the headquarter of ABF More than 3000 interventions following phone requests for help. More than 2000 replies through the channels of the ABF.

Some data on burns Burns represent in France every year: ●300 000 victims, all burn degrees (70% of all burns are domestic burns) ●10 000 intakes in hospitals of which: ☛3500 persons treated in specialised burn centers (CTB) ☛4000 persons excluded from CTB due to bad selection of hospital care ☛1000 persons pass away following their burns

  15. Special burn after care centers In France: ●22 burn centers (CTB) ●19 centers of functional re-education ●220 specialized beds only available in CTB
