  4. NUMBER: Singular and Plural Nouns and Pronouns • A singular noun names one person, place, thing or idea. • Examples: My pencil is broken. May I borrow a piece of paper? • A plural noun names more than one person, place, thing or idea. • Examples: My pencils are broken. My papers are scattered around the floor.

  5. Case • Defines the role of the noun in the sentence-as the subject or object or to show possession. • The French player (subject) is especially tall. • The manager chose the French player. (object). • The French player’s (possessive) skill is famous.

  6. Possessive Nouns • A possessive noun shows ownership. It uses an apostrophe (‘) or an apostrophe plus an –s on the end. • Examples: The boys’ basketball team is walking down the hall. I borrowed my sister’s shirt.

  18. Pronouns • Subject Pronoun • A subject prounoun indicates that the pronoun is acting as the subject of the sentence. The subject pronouns are "I," "you," "she," "he," "it," "we," "you," "they." I was glad to find the bus pass in the bottom of the green knapsack. You are surely the strangest magician I have ever met. We will meet at the library.

  19. Possessive Personal Pronouns A possessive pronoun indicates that the pronoun is acting as a marker of possession and defines who owns a particular object or person. The possessive pronouns are "mine," "yours," "hers," "his," "its.“ This is yours. His is on the kitchen counter. Theirs will be delivered tomorrow. Ours is the green one on the corner.
