  2. Objectives School leaders will: • Practice scoring Professionalism • Understand the EOY Data Reports • Understand available support for hosting EOY LEAP Conversations • Understand rationale and next steps with Standards and Teacher Leader strategies for 2013-14

  3. Agenda • Professionalism Initial Calibration (60 min.) • EOY Data Reports and Conversations (40 min.) • Standards-Based Instruction and Teacher Leadership Strategy for 2013-14 (20 min.) • Parking Lot: Include email address if you want a response.

  5. Goals • Calibrate Professionalism scores through discussion of 2 scenarios • Create confidence in scoring teachers using the Professionalism rubric • Create confidence in how to discuss Professionalism • Entering Professionalism scores

  7. Noticings about Performance Level Characteristics • Principal has Information Requested (“IR”) option • If IR chosen, contact teacher for information prior to the conversation

Professionalism Scenario 1– Chandra from Foley Elementary 7 min. • Read the scenario • Independently score Chandra using the Professionalism rubric • Briefly note evidence for scores on your chart 13 min. • Discuss the scores and evidence for each indicator your table group. • Come to consensus on one final rating for each indicator

Professionalism Scenario 2 – Lori from Rice Middle School 5 min. • Read the scenario • Independently score Lori using the Professionalism rubric– ONLY P.2, P.3, P.5, and P.6 • Briefly note evidence for scores on your chart 5 min. • Discuss the scores and evidence for each indicator your table group. • Come to consensus on one final rating for each indicator

LEAP End-of-Year Timeline • April 5 – Begin entering Professionalism scores with online tool via Principal/Teacher Portals • April 19 – Last day to perform an observation • April 25 – End-of-Year report data available on Principal/Teacher Portals; EOY Conversations can begin • April 30 – Last day to finalize observation data in Schoolnet • May 21 – Last day to host End-of-Year Conversations • Reminder: Non-Renewal decisions need to be communicated to teachers and HR by 5/1

LEAP EOY Data Reports • Summary view: Professional Practice components of LEAP • Data supports teacher self-reflection and growth planning • EOY data: • Observation: Averaged indicator scores, snapshot of district comparison • Professionalism: Teacher and principal scores by indicator • SPS: Overall rating (Distinguished, Effective, Approaching and Not Meeting) • Sharing the data: • Reflect and strategize on how to make progress in specific areas in the coming school year

Support Strategy/PD: Standards-Based Instruction The Paradigm Shift • Schools can: • Choose their path to Standards-Based Instruction • (with support and progress monitoring from IS/EDs) • Have data aligned to clear outcomes for standards-based instruction • Make more informed, site-based decisions about what PD is needed • (with manager guidance when appropriate) PATHS for Standards-Based Instruction • Paths will be differentiated and will include: • Content Deep Dives • Standards-based Instruction Toolkit • Standards Scope and Sequence Documents • Teacher Leadership Academy (Collaborative team leader) • Classroom Assessment cohorts (including Short Cycle Assessments) • Literacy Design collaborative (6th-12thSocial Studies and Science only) • OTHER Year-long study opportunities - TBD for certain schools Commitments to Schools • Design differentiated PD offerings • Align all PD to Frameworks (Leadership and Effective Teaching) • Help schools reach clearly defined outcomes • Be collaborative • Embed technology, best practices for ELLs, and data inquiry throughout • Be results-based, small group, social, and as learner-directed as possible
