    2. Behaviour Intervention Service The BIS currently consists of: Manager Administration Officer Project officer 4 Forensic Casework Specialists 13 Senior Clinical Consultants

Behaviour Intervention Service BIS is a statewide specialist service within DADHC.It provides assistance across NSW to families and service systems in both government and non-government sectors. BIS operates as a tertiary service, which means providing consultancies and support to local services and staff who work with the client and who will best support the individual in the longer term. Senior Clinical Consultants work with local Clinicians and other staff in the local area by providing specialist consultation and clinical support. Forensic Casework Specialists work with the wide variety of DADHC or agency staff, families and carers in the local area by providing specialist consultation and support when a client offends or is at risk of offending.

    4. Forensic Casework Services The Forensic Casework Services within the BIS were established in June 2002. This service plays a key role in developing service infrastructure, complex case co-ordination practices and local expertise specific to people with intellectual disability and offending behaviour. The Forensic Casework Specialists develop and deliver training packages relevant to working with this population The Forensic Casework Specialists work alongside staff, mentoring and coaching them while working with this population.

Forensic Casework Specialists Provide: Analyse cases, make recommendations & assist with implementation of these recommendations Immediate response Assistance in complex case coordination & service planning Mentoring of local workers Assistance in navigating the legal system Liaison with Police & Corrections Pre & Post Release planning Training System reviews Project Work ( policy, review of legislation, inter-agency liaison and pilot programs)

    6. BIS Forensic services may be provided in : - Supported accommodation - Community support - Schools - Families - Community partners - Any facility dealing with a person with intellectual disability

    7. Capacity building: Casework support regarding Legal/Police/courts/corrections systems Mentoring Moral support to staff Identifying attitudinal issues and risk factors Mediation and liaison between services or family Access and referral to other services such as the Acquired Brain Injury Association, AOD services, Office of the Public Guardian or Mental Health services. Meetings and liaison between agencies Support contact between DADHC staff and corrections

FCS Preventative measures Accommodation planning Environment risk management System reviews Policy and procedures review, development and training Resource development Group work Day release sponsorship Targeted Training and workshops Intra and Inter agency projects and meetings Presentations and seminars

    9. Who Refers to BIS?

    10. All Referrals Require: Client has an intellectual disability Challenging &/or offending behaviour Is at risk of, is involved with, is leaving the Criminal Justice System (forensic case coordination) Is a Regional/Service priority That respective types of support have a local link person (eg. local clinician or case coordinator)
