  4. Notifications • Duty officer provided last known position to MSP Trooper 8 and PG County 911 dispatchers • Trooper 8 attempted to fly to last known position coordinates; returned due to low visibility • Trooper 8 crew drove to Walker Mill Regional Park

  5. Search • Trooper 8 crew arrived about 0100 but did not see helicopter or hear ELT • Notified of cell phone “pings” • Responded to new location • Arrived in commercial area near cell phone tower

  7. Incident Management • MSP barrack personnel responsible for managing incidents within their areas • Staff unfamiliar with aviation • Barrack commander requested assistance from Aviation Command personnel 2 hours after accident

  8. Cell Phone “Pinging” • Ground units distracted by extraneous information • Obtaining location of cell phone had some merit • Information not adequately vetted prior to dissemination
