  1. ENERGYSAVING:APOPULARCONCEPTFORTHEMODERNWORLD We all are well versed with the universal fact that there are tons of energy consumption around the world. Energy is required to run the world; every major and minor activity requires energy from a source. Different activities require different kinds of energy and different levels of energy. Some activities consume a large amount of energy while some operate on low consumption. But in a nutshell, all the activities of transportation, manufacturing, heating, air conditioning, communication and industries require energy. So, the production of energy also has to be done on a large scale and it has to be done fast, since the activities cannot stop. Production and types of energy: Talking about the types of energy, there are two types: i. Non-renewable sources of energy: Such sources of energy cannot be renewed in a short time. If they are not used carefully and judiciously they may get exhausted as they take millions of years to form. ●Fossil fuel is a fuel occurring by natural processes, by decomposition of dead and decaying organic matter. ●Fossil fuels contain high amounts of carbon, including natural gas, petroleum and coal. Kerosene is also one of the major derivatives. ●Fossil fuels are non-renewable resources of energy, as they take millions of years to form. Some major fossil fuels are: ●Coal: Coal is a combustible fuel and is widely used for energy production. They usually occur in layers of the rocks. Over the years, under the geological processes the coal changes from peat to lignite, then sub bituminous, then bituminous and lastly anthracite.

  2. ●Natural Gas: It is another non-renewable resource occurring naturally. Natural gas is formed as a result of decomposed plant and animal matters, being exposed to heat and pressure, under the Earth's surface. It takes millions of years to form. ●Oil: Oil is basically a chemical substance that does not mix with water. Oil is a multipurpose chemical substance. It is used in cooking, as fuel (petroleum), lubrication and so on. There are organic oils and mineral oils too. Petroleum or crude oil come under mineral oil. Although these are widely used fuels and sources of energy, they are not sustainable to use. They cause pollution and environmental degradation. The pace, at which these resources are been used it is quite clear that it will be exhausted soon. ii. Nuclear power: Nuclear power uses nuclear fusion or reactions to produce energy. The heat produced during the nuclear reaction is used as a energy resource. Nuclear fission is done by reacting to chemicals, to form a new one and during the process the heat that is produced is used as power. iii. Renewable sources of energy: These sources of energy are natural sources of energy. It does not take years to form and doesn't exhaust. ●Wind power: Wind power or energy production by wind uses flowing air, with the help of turbines to convert it into usable electricity, for power generators. Since, wind energy requires strong wind flow, the on shores of seas and oceans often become a popular site of wind energy projects. ●Wave and tide energy: Tidal energy uses the tides and waves of the ocean to produce energy, especially electricity. Tidal and wave energy are not in use globally yet, because the production and conversion require advanced technology. ●Geothermal energy: Geothermal energy basically originates under the Earth and is reserved under the Earth too. The geothermal energy is the heat produced from the Earth's crust that is the internal heat of the Earth. The high temperatures of the Earth's surface produce volumes of energy. ●Biomass: Biomass is the energy obtained from burning wood or other organic matters. Biomass is used by burning and the heat produced by burning them is

  3. utilized or the biomass is converted into biofuel and then utilized. Wood is the largest biomass. ●Hydropower: Hydropower, refers to the energy obtained from rapid running water and from water falling from a height in force. Watermills are used to process and convert the moving water into electrical energy. ●Solar energy: Solar energy uses the heat and light of the sun to produce energy. It is the most widely used source of energy. It is cheap and convenient to operate. It has a high working capacity. All the countries are setting up large solar plants to win the race of being the least polluted country. Temecula Solar is such a company running in California. These ways of energy production do not cause environmental disturbance and is used conventionally. Chain of marketing and selling the energy: Since there are so many ways of energy production, there must be ways to set up the plants and sell the energy too. One of the solar installation company is Solar Wildomar, operating in California that installs solar plants and panels in different sections of the city. In the same way, the production to the retailing to the utilization it is a long chain to follow. It needs heavy transportation, labour and marketing. So, not one but multiple companies run around the world to make it easier as a task. There are companies that set up the hydropower plants as they are bigger units it becomes a little more expensive and requires proper topography. All the other energy producing sources too, are managed and marketed. As mentioned above Solar Temecula, is a large industry making and supplying solar panels. Energy resources require good management otherwise we can run out of them and make no use of it either. Source URL: https://goo.gl/Af89J6
