  1. Gif++ CR tracker updates G. Aielli for the RPC collaboration GIF++ meeting 11/07/2014

  2. Delivery of the 2 chambers of the carpet Schedule: • Delivered to Roma for testing  week of 21/7 • Delivered at CERN  week of 28/7

  3. Production ongoing X panels Support panels Gas Gaps Y panels

  4. Readout System layout requirements • Ceiling tracker --> 128 channels providing digital output • This can be read with 1 CAEN TDC 100 ps like CAEN 1190 in TOT mode • Fine trackers (small dimension trackers) --> 4* 32 channels providing analog output • part of this will be read out with the fast digitizer board CAEN V1742 (we have just one of it) • the rest could be discriminated and read by another CAEN 1190 in TOT mode • floor tracker (64 channel + 48 channels)--> CAEN 1190 in TOT mode • Big carpet under the floor --> 224 channels --> 2 CAEN 1190 in TOT mode SUMMARY: • 5 CAEN 1190 in TOT mode  640 channels • 1 CAEN 1742  32 channels (possibly a second one)

  5. Readout scheme: standard detectors • Standard Tracking trigger top quadruplet + floor singlet+ carpet: • Top tracher and ground tracker 50x100 cm^2 + Underground Tracker: • Strip  Pre-amp  FE (on chamber) discriminated single ended ECL sent over 15 m of flat cable (not more!)  receivers NIM module based Trigger logic Single plane Fast or Single plane Fast or DAQ PC Receiver crate Eurocard format Trigger info FRONT END Single plane Fast or Single plane Fast or Pre-ampifpresent < 15 m flat cables Single end ECL signal readout VME TDCs VME TDCs (e.g. CAEN VX1190A-2eSST) Optical fiber to control room < 5 m

  6. Test receivers for readout and trigger • Receiver board for testing ATLAS RPCs • 8 x 8 input channels ECL single ended • 2 x 32 differential output

  7. Backplane details • Total capacity of 1 crate 1024 channels • Sufficient for all the chambers • Available in BB5 • 32 channel slots • Total OR 8 by 8 channels (pins) • Total OR of 32 channels (Lemo)

  8. Readout scheme: high resolution trackers • 3 high resolution trackers: 2 on the roof 1 on the ground • 30x30 cm^2 with 1 cm pitch strips: • Strip  New-amp  analog sent over <7 m of coax cable (not more!)  VEM fast digitizer DAQ PC VME fast digitizer New-amp < 7 m coax analog signal can be longer but with more expensive cables Optical fiber to control room
