Rythm • Couplets as a whole do not have a specific rhythm to them. • There are certain kinds of couplets that do require a specific kind of rhythm. • One example of this is Heroic Couplets, they require the use of Iambic pentameter (/u/u/u/u/u). • Most couplets have two rhyming lines that also follow the same meter.

  3. Example • "I have the measles and the mumps,a gash, a rash and purple bumps." (Sick, Shel Silverstein, Lansky) • This is a rhyming couplet that also uses iambic pentameter.

  4. Original Couplet • You sit there and say totes, presh and awk and now all I want to do is hit you with a rock. -Alexandra Milliard
