  4. THE ROMANS HAD PERSONS CALLED “ARCHITECTS” WHO PLANNED HOW A BUILDING SHOULD BE BUILT. THEY PLANNED THE BUILDINGS WITH GREAT ARCHES AND DOMES. THEY INVENTED “CONCRETE” (MIXTURE OF WATER, SAND, STONE AND CEMENT) IT HELPED TO MAKE BUILDINGS STRONGER

  5. MOST BUILDINGS WERE MADE FROM WHATEVER LOCAL STONE WAS AVAILABLE. OTHERS WERE MADE FROM WOOD AND TILES. THE ROMANS ARE FAMOUS FOR THEIR TOWNS AND CITIES. THEY DIDN’T INVENT THEM. WHAT THE ROMANS DID WAS MAKE THEM BIGGER THAN EVER BEFORE. GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS WERE MADE OUT OF FINE STONE AND PAID FOR MONEY RAISED IN TAXES. THE GOVERNMENT CONTROLLED THE SUPPLY OF MARBLE. THIS WAS A WAY OF MAKING MONEY AND HAVING ENOUGH FOR BUILDINGS.

  6. The marketplace with shops and taverns Taverns and shops could be found along streets in the towns. Taverns had a kind of bar were they put the merchandise so that people could buy things. The market was the place outside where the shopkeepers sold their goods. They sold things like food or wine and they could buy a few things in the area.

  7. Roman Fountains Romans had a lot of fountains. Some were built to wash and others for the gods. They were sometimes built to use the excess of water coming out from aqueducts. Women went to them with there dirty clothes to wash them. They were also used to drink from. People went there with an Amphore and filled it with water and then they could bring it home. The fountain in Rome called Trevi fountain was built for Neptune. The Trevi fountain was believed to have some magic. It is said that if someone throws a coin over his shoulder and wishes for something it will happen. MENU
