  1. Sermon • Ecclesiastes 12:13 • The Misery of NOT Fearing God

  2. The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis

  3. The 14 Habits of Highly Miserable People – the Art of Self-Sabotage

  4. Benefits to Misery • Attention and Care • NO Hopes, NO Desires, NO Cares, NO Disappointment • You are brooding and intelligent

  5. Habits of Highly Miserable People • #1 Be very afraid of economic loss. • Hebrews 13:5 • Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, "I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsakeyou,"

  6. 6 so that we confidently say, "theLord is my helper, I will not be afraid. what will man do to me?"

  7. #2 Practice sustained boredom.

  8. If you are bored and want to spice up your life, then start telling others about Jesus.

  9. #3. Give yourself a negative identity

  10. Remember your identity as a beloved daughter or son of the Living God. Your understanding of how God sees you will shape the direction of your spiritual life.

  11. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 1 2Cor 5:17 • Rom 8:1 – There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

  12. Therefore, if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. 3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

  13. 4 When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. • Col 3:1-4

  14. #4. Pick fights.

  15. To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; 9 not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing.

  16. 10 For, "The one who desires life, to love and see good days, • must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit. • 11"He must turn away from evil and do good; • He must seek peace and pursue it.

  17. 12 "For the eyes of the lord are toward the righteous, • And His ears attend to their prayer, • But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil." • 1 Pet 3

  18. #5. Attribute bad intentions.

  19. 1 Cor 13…Love is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

  20. #6. Whatever you do, do it only for personal gain.

  21. But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. 7For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. 8 If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content.

  22. 9 But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1 Tim 6

  23. 2 Cor 9:6-8 Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

  24. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed;

  25. #7. Avoid gratitude

  26. Jesus is the God-fearing man who: • § He did not fear loss because He trusted the Father. • § He was not bored because He gave Himself to an eternal Mission and kingdom.

  27. § He lived out of the Identity he heard from the Father – “This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased.” • § He did not “pick fights”

  28. § Jesus knew the heart of men and women, yet He was vulnerable and calls imperfect people to be His ambassadors.§ He lived a life of thankfulness to His heavenly Father and trusted Him even at the point of death on a cross.
