Waves. A disturbance that transfers energy from place to place. Think of a boat on the ocean….. -if a wave disturbs the surface of the water, it will cause anything floating on the water to be disturbed too. -the disturbance caused by a wave is temporary. Characteristics of Waves.

  1. Waves • A disturbance that transfers energy from place to place. Think of a boat on the ocean….. -if a wave disturbs the surface of the water, it will cause anything floating on the water to be disturbed too. -the disturbance caused by a wave is temporary.

  3. Amplitude • Amplitude is the distance from rest position to a crest or a trough.

  4. Wavelength • Distance between 2 corresponding parts of a wave. http://mirror.bom.gov.au/weather/radar/about/images/wavelength.gif

  5. Frequency • The number of complete waves that pass a given point in a certain amount of time. The frequency of this wave is 2 cycles per second or 2 Hz.
