  2. Training Objectives • To understand the roles of different participants in conducting ACCESS for ELLs® • To understand how to activate and use the online D2L Test Administration Training Course

  3. Roles in Conducting ACCESS Testing • Facilitators • These individuals, typically at the state or district level, are responsible for the overall coordination of test administration activities within the state or district. • Coordinators • These individuals, typically at the district or school level, have responsibility for receiving, securing, distributing, and returning test materials. • Test Administrators • These individuals administer parts of the ACCESS for ELL® test for which they have received appropriate training.

  4. Facilitator Responsibilities • Coordinate with WIDA administrators, MetriTech, and the Center for Applied Linguistics • Schedule school-level testing during the testing window • Enroll test administrators in the online training course and/or provide alternative means of training • Certify or approve test administrators • Arrange for reporting and dissemination of testing results

  5. Coordinator Responsibilities • Arrange and schedule test sessions and generally oversee all aspects of test administration • Make sure that test administration is performed by properly trained test administrators • Coordinate distribution of teacher reports and parent/guardian reports

  6. Test Administrator (TA) Responsibilities • Assure that pre-ID labels are attached to test booklets correctly or that student data is properly bubbled in on test booklet covers • Administer group components of the test (Listening, Reading, and Writing) • Administer and score the Speaking component of the test • Administer the Kindergarten test • Properly account for test booklet security immediately before, during, and after test administration

Preparing for Your Role • Get registered in the D2L course • For facilitators, registration is completed by CAL • For coordinators and test administrators, registration is completed by a facilitator • Read the background documents in the D2L course related to your role • If you will be administering tests to students • Practice with the test samples in the D2L course • Samples are included for each language domain • Speaking test samples will require the most time • Take the quiz for the tests you will be administering • Group components: Listening, Reading, Writing • Speaking component • Kindergarten (all components)

Registering in D2L as a Facilitator • Facilitators are designated as “WIDA Instructors,” a category of “Staff” • Send (or give) first name, last name, district or charter school name, and email address to Raquel Sinai • After registration you will receive an email from D2L giving you logon instructions

  9. Registering TA’s Registration is done from the Classlist menu within D2L • For one by one registration, select Add Participant • For batch or bulk registration, select Import Participants Staff include list of facilitators and Students include list of test administrators

  10. One by One Registration Click on button toCreate and add a new participant Fill in all fields. Note that StudentID and UserName are the same. Formula for setting up ID and password is described on following slide. Make sure check box is checked toSend an enrollment email Default role of A Student enrolls a Test Administrator

Template for ID and Password All registrations must conform to naming templates Usernames and StudentIds take the form using the template: WIDAPA437JJones3987 WIDA PA 437 J Jones 3987 WIDA State Initials State District Code First Name Initial Last Name 4 random digits Letters WIDA must begin all names. Codes are available in published code list. Restricted to no more than 6 letters. No spaces, apostrophes, or special characters. Use of upper and lower case as indicated is helpful to “read” the entry. jejo3987 Passwords take the form using the template: je jo 3987 First 2 letters of first name First 2 letters of last name Same 4 random digits as ID All letters in password are in lower case.

  12. Batch Registration • Use to register larger numbers of TA’s at a single time • Works with the spreadsheet provided in the D2L course • Follow instructions accompanying the Excel file to create the .csv file. • Import the .csv file into D2L.

  14. Logging On to D2L Use the Username and Password provided you when you were registered.

  15. Activating Your D2L Course: Part 1 • After logging on you will be placed in your Home Page • From the Home Page you can access all your My Oshkosh Courses at the bottom of the screen

  16. Activating Your D2L Course: Part 2 • Your course name will be listed as ACCESS Test Administrator Training <YourState> • If you don’t see your course under Ongoing, then click the small + (plus sign). • Click also on the + next to WIDA.

  17. Activating Course Content • After activating the course, you will see the Course Home page. • Click on the Contents menu to view course modules.

  18. Course Content Course content is divided into 3 sections • Preliminary Workshop Materials • Test Management and Coordination Procedures • Test Administration Procedures • Group Administered Test Components • Speaking Component • Kindergarten Component

D2L Group Components Test Training • Provides essential background in the structure of Listening, Reading, and Writing items • Provides samples of test items • Provides a quiz to test knowledge and skill with group administered components of the test & to establish certification/approval to administer test

D2L Speaking Test Training • Provides essential background in the Speaking test and Speaking items • Provides samples of responses at all grade levels and proficiency levels • Samples provide models for standardization of administration procedures • Samples allow for calibration on the scoring rubric • Calibration better assures inter-rater reliability • Provides a quiz to test knowledge and skill with Speaking test and to establish certification/approval to administer test

Kindergarten Test Training • Provides essential background in the structure and organization of the Kindergarten test • Since TA’s will score both the Speaking and Writing responses, samples of Speaking and Writing performances are provided • A separate Kindergarten test administration manual is available • Provides a quiz to test knowledge and skill with Kindergarten test and to establish certification/approval to administer test

Quiz and Grade Details • Quiz includes 10-15 questions • Some questions require rating of speech samples • Quiz is “passed” at 80% correct • Quiz results, feedback, and correct answers are available at completion in D2L Grades book • Only persons enrolled as Students in D2L can take a quiz for a grade • Quiz may be retaken as necessary to reach criterion • Only highest graded attempt is recorded in Grades book
