  4. Common Myth-stakes • Myth: “S/he needs to stand in there and take it in the chest” • Fact: • Can turn or duck to absorb the shock of imminent contact • Can be shoulder-to-shoulder contact

  5. Common Myth-stakes • Myth: “S/he didn’t have both feet on the floor” • Fact: • Two feet are required to OBTAIN legal guarding position • No requirement to MAINTAIN legal guarding position • Can even jump within vertical plane

  6. Common Myth-stakes • Myth: “S/he didn’t get there before the offense was ‘gathering’ “ • Fact: • That’s a new NCAAM rule • HS: Required to be at spot before offense leaves the floor • “Gathering” applies only to “continuous motion”

  7. Common Myth-stakes • Myth: “The ball was released – the basket should count” • Fact: • NCAAM rule • HS: Airborne shooter can commit a PC foul

  8. Mechanics • B/C often happens with “secondary defender” or in “dual coverage” areas • Primary Official is often focused on ball • Secondary Official can get other defensive players • Expect a double whistle • Very hard for L to hold call • T/C should look like this:

  10. BLARGE • Double Foul • Report Both • Resume at POI • Before Try: Give ball back to offense • During Try: • Double Foul can NOT include PC foul – so try counts • If try is successful – 2 points for A; Throw-in for B along endline • If try is unsuccessful – go to the arrow
