  2. When did it start? Herman was born to George and Franciska Hollerith on February 29, in Buffalo, New York in 1860 His parents were immigrants from Germany He began school at the city college of Newyork at the age of 15 Graduated from the Columbia school of Mines with a “Engineer in Mines” degree in 1879

  3. Continued • Also received a PH.D at Columbia University • In 1890,on September 15,he married Lucia Beverly Telcott • They had 3 sons and 3 daughters • Cherished 3 things during his lifespan; his German heritage, his privacy and his cat Bismarck."[

  4. Who is this guy? • He was a German mathematician/Statistical engineer and the father of modern information processing • Developed a tabulator or calculator based on punch cards • Founder of IBM

  5. More information about this dude He liked good cigars, fine wine, Guernsey cows, and money. And he ended up with a lot of each. He disliked property taxes, and hard-driving salesmen.

  6. The IBM computer Distributed in 1981 was the world’s first largest computer manufactures This was the first computer to use the floppy disk The IBM represents the International Business of Machines

Received a patent application Began working in the Census Office It became hard for him to generate data in large amounts Position was to build machines under the Census he stayed their for one year First got his idea for the punch-card tabulation machine from watching a train conductor punch tickets.
