  2. Who Is Joseph Stalin? Birth- December 18th,1878 Death- March 5th, 1953 Joseph Stalin dropped out of school and became an underground political agitator He joined the Marxist Social Democratic movement, led by Vladimir Lenin 1912, Lenin, then in exile in Switzerland, appointed Joseph Stalin to serve on the first Central Committee of the Bolshevik Party. Three years later, in November 1917, the Bolsheviks seized power in Russia

  3. Who is Leon Trotsky? Born on Nov. 7th, 1879 Died on Aug. 20th 1940 • Joined Social Democratic Party • Involved in Underground activities as a teenager • Built Up Red Army • Saw himself as Lenin's (Leader of the Russian Empire) Heir-Apparent • Was Killed by Ramon Mercader (One of Lenin's secret police) • Criticized Stalin • Developed Theory of Permanent Revolution in 1904 (the theory that was important for socialists to help them understand and be able to argue nation liberty and movements against imperialism.)

  4. What is The difference Between the two? Trotsky believed that socialism in only one country couldn't exist to work properly, while Stalin believed that socialism in only one country would strengthen the USSR.

  5. How Are They Related? Leon Trotsky was one of the leaders of the "October Revolution". He was well educated and wanted to improve all of the lives of people in russia. He was also enemies of Leon Trotsky. Unlike Leon Trotsky, Joseph Stalin was not well educated and was not a good speaker. Joseph Stalin wanted power and killed all that weren't on his side, Including Leon Trotsky.

  6. What Impact did They Have on society? • Joseph Stalin practically destroyed the Soviet Union by himself in the 1930's. He killed many farmers by taking away their farms, consequently having them die of starvation. • Leon Trotsky was the first person to stand up to Stalin by telling him that he was wrong to take away jewish people's farm and suggested him to take down the industry instead. • Leon Trotsky had control of the Soviet Union and created the idea of Permanent Revolution.
