  1. 3 Types of Writing

  2. What are the 3 types of writing? • Expository (also called informative) • Persuasive (also called argumentive) • Narrative

  3. Expository Writing •  Exposition writing "explains" or "informs.“ • Most of the writing we do is expository. • When we do expository writing, we are exposing the reader to specific information.

  4. Why do we need Expository Writing? • Any time you write, type, or text anybody, any information, you are using expository writing. • Examples: essay, research paper, report, manual

  5. Persuasive Writing • Ever try to convince anyone of your point of view? • If you do any convincing verbally, that would be persuasive speaking. If you were to write those same words down, that would be persuasive writing.

  6. When will you need Persuasive writing? • Any time, ever you need to write an essay or letter to convince people that your point of view is the right one. • Politicians • Writing a letter to the editor • Job Applications • Writing to request money from an organization

  7. Narrative Writing • Narrative is storytelling • Doesn’t matter whether that story is fact or fiction. • This is a good spot for descriptive writing, it allows you to set the scene for the reader. • Examples: short story, novel, narrative poem, journal

  8. Assignment • Now that we have learned the 3 types of writing I want you to practice with each type. • Pick out your favorite movie. • Got it? You will now write 3 paragraphs. • Write one that is Expository telling me what the movie is about. • Write one that is Persuasive telling me why I should watch your movie. • Write one that is Narrative describing your experience the first time you saw your favorite movie
