  1. Welcome to High School Enrollment

  2. Purpose of Today’s Activities: • Determine your progress towards graduation • Check to make sure your transcript is correct • Decide which classes you need to enroll in for next year

  3. Teachers, please distribute: • Official transcripts for each student • Credit check forms

  4. Sample Transcript & Credit Check Form

  5. Instructions • 1) Use your transcript to mark eachsemester that you have successfully completed a course. If you failed a course, do not check the box for that semester. Do not complete it from memory. You need to make sure that the information on your transcript is accurate and complete.

  6. Next 2) While marking the form, check to make sure that each sheet (pink, yellow, white) is legible. 3) Write IP (In Progress) next to each box representing the second semester class that you are currently taking.

  7. Next • 4) Each box represents one semester, or ½ credit, so now, count up each box to see if your total matches the number of credits listed on the bottom of your transcript. (Do not count your IPs) • 5) You will also find your GPA and Class Rank at the bottom of your transcript. Write it on your credit check form

  8. Testing • 5) If you know the results of your EOI tests, mark them on your credit check form • 6) If you know your highest ACT or SAT score, write it on your credit check form

  9. Questions? Problems? • 7) Make a list of any transcript questions/problems on the bottom of your credit check form. • 8) You keep the yellow form and give the white and pink copies to your teacher.

  10. Teachers, please distribute: • Course Selection Guide • Enrollment Forms

  11. Graduation Requirements • Turn to page 5 of your booklet and review the graduation requirements for your graduation year. Please note that there are some changes due to changes in State requirements. • The graduation requirements for the incoming 9th grade students, class of 2013, are noted on page 3. Make sure that you are reviewing the requirements for YOUR class.

  12. Graduation Changes • Art competencies in World History and English IV are no longer acceptable. You need to be sure that you have taken a minimum of one ART class. • Certificate of Distinction ONLY requires passing the EOIs in Algebra I, Biology, English II and US History.

  13. Now, you are ready to enroll • Using your credit check form and your graduation requirements, it is time to select your courses for next year. • All students must choose seven courses. • Two semester courses equal one course • If you are already attending Francis Tuttle, you may circle and count those classes. • If you have applied to Francis Tuttle, you may circle it, but you must also enroll in seven hours. We will change your schedule later.

  14. Instructions, continued • Do not assume you are going to summer school. If you failed a core class and have not retaken it, this year or in previous years, you must pre-enroll in it for next year. We will change your schedule after you complete summer school or make up the credit in some other way.

  15. Instructions, continued • Be sure to choose three alternate classes that you are willing to take if there is a conflict in the schedule or if a class is cancelled or full. For alternates, write the number and the name of the course on the back of the enrollment sheet. If you leave it blank, we will chose for you based on what is available. 

  16. More instructions…. • All courses that require a teacher’s approval (TA) must be initialed before you are enrolled in a class. Not having this done prior to your enrollment night will delay your admission to the class. Student will not be enrolled in that class until the form is initialed.

  17. Filling Out the Enrollment Sheet • Use a pencil • Update the personal information sheet • Put student’s name and id number on both sides of the enrollment form • Circle both course number and course name • Take materials you receive today home and discuss them with your parents. Bring your parents, along with the COMPLETED enrollment sheet, the evening of your appointment

  18. 9th and 10th Grade Students OHLAP Scholarship • State program which pays for a student’s tuition to an Oklahoma college or university • Must apply during 8th, 9th, or 10th grade • Family must earn $50,000 or less per year at the time of application and $100,000 upon student’s entrance to college • For more information go to: www.okpromise.org

  19. Teachers, please review the next few slides with your students for information on testing, concurrent enrollment and other important subjects.

  20. OKCOLLEGESTART.ORG • Oklahoma’s official source for planning a college education in Oklahoma • Prepare for the ACT with free test prep • Use the High School Planner • See Oklahoma’s official guide to preparing for college

  21. ACT and SAT Tests • Nationwide college entrance exams taken on a Sat. • Oklahoma leans toward the ACT test but most colleges will accept either test • We recommend taking once during freshman year, once during sophomore year, and several times junior and senior year • OU and OSU require a 24 ACT or 1090 SAT for automatic admission • Enroll online at www.actstudent.org or www.collegeboard.org

  22. Other Tests Taken Throughout High School • PLAN—Pre-ACT test taken by all sophomores • PSAT—Pre-SAT test taken by freshman, sophomores, or juniors who want to take it; only way student can be National Merit Scholar • ASVAB—Career Battery that juniors or seniors may elect to take in the Fall

  23. College Concurrent Enrollment • Juniors or seniors who take a college class instead of two of their electives • Must have an ACT/SAT score to enroll • Currently the state is paying the tuition (not books and fees) for seniors who take college classes • Deer Creek offers several concurrent enrollment classes on our campus, see your counselor for more information.

  24. Francis Tuttle • Career Technology program • Students go to Francis Tuttle half day and stay at Deer Creek half day • In most cases Francis Tuttle classes count as electives • Except for the Pre-Engineering and BioScience Academies, Francis Tuttle begins Junior or Senior years

  25. Thinking Ahead to Scholarships • Keep a list of your leadership, service hours, and awards • Work toward highest ACT/SAT score • Get the best grades possible • Watch for your counselor’s emails and the Counselors’ Collection to find out about upcoming opportunities.

  26.
