  2. Keep Gums Healthy at Home • According to a new study, periodontal disease or gum disease may increase the chances of severe symptoms or death for COVID-19 patients. • While more studies are still needed to understand the relationship between the two, this only emphasizes the need for dental care. • Gums keep the teeth in place. Infected gums may lead to recession, a buildup of harmful bacteria, and eventually, tooth loss. But you can prevent all this by maintaining good oral hygiene habits.

  3. Here are Important Tips to Keep Your Gums Healthy at Home.

  4. Brush At least Twice a Day • Proper brushing should be done at least twice a day and for at least two minutes each. • Brushing before bedtime is also crucial as it gets rid of food debris that may turn into harmful acids as you go to sleep. • The mouth produces less saliva during sleep, which reduces pH levels and makes the teeth more vulnerable to acid attacks.

  5. Brush Thoroughly • Brushing multiple times a day won’t do much help if not done properly. Be sure to use a soft-bristled brush and switch to a new one every 3-4 months or once it becomes frayed. • Avoid aggressive brushing as it can only lead to enamel erosion. Instead, brush every area using small, circular strokes. • Consider using an electric brush if you’re having trouble with a manual brush.

  6. Floss Daily • Get rid of debris that’s trapped in tight spaces between teeth by flossing daily. The typical toothbrush won’t be able to remove it. • Even if you have sensitive gums or teeth, continue to floss. If anything, flossing is even more necessary if you’re experiencing soreness in your mouth. It helps prevent bacteria build-up and infections. • If you often forget to floss, set a specific convenient time and stick to it.

  7. Maintain a Balanced Diet • The gums and the mouth also need nutrition that comes from the food that you eat. • Limit your intake of sugary and starchy food as well as acidic beverages. Try to include healthier options, such as apples and carrots, for your snacks. • Plan your weekly meals so you can avoid settling for processed or instant food.

  8. Drink Plenty of Water • Water remains the safest beverage option for the gums, teeth, and the rest of the body. • Drinking water helps stimulate the flow of saliva in the mouth and removes debris left after eating. It also keeps highly-pigmented beverages from leaving stubborn stains on the teeth. • Water helps rehydrate your body so that you can work and play better.
