Coastal Development Recommendations • Promote the timely use of scientific information by the management community • Infrastructure required • Management community must be a stakeholder in the coastal observing system • Establish Coastal Training Program in each coastal state • Scale-up establishment of COSEE Centers

  5. Coastal Development Recommendations • Incorporate coastal and ocean sciences in reform efforts and training programs aimed at creating a scientifically-literate populace • Engage scientists and educators in the translation of data and information from coastal observing systems and current studies • Establish the infrastructure to encourage and facilitate interactions between scientists and educators • Coastal Training Program • Center for Ocean Science Education Excellence

  6. Coastal Development Recommendations • Build local capacity to foster science-based decision-making • enable local decision-makers to access, interpret and use science-based information easily • local training and support services • interagency scope • periodic needs assessments required

  7. CoastalDevelopmentRecommendations • Strengthen the role of the National Estuarine Research Reserve System to acquire, protect and restore critical coastal habitat • Coastal and Estuarine Land Acquisition Program • Amend CZMA • Promote partnerships with land management/acquisition agencies and organizations to coordinate acquisition efforts • Implement Restoration Science initiative
