A Revisit of Hale's and Joy's Laws of Active Regions Using SOHO MDI Observations Georgios Chintzoglou, JieZhang George Mason University, Fairfax, VA 22030 • This study is a refinement of the two classic laws of Solar Physics, using a modern and high resolution SOHO MDI dataset and an objective AR identification method. • Hale’s Law: true for every seven out of eight ARs. • Joy’s Law: true for every two out of three ARs, • very weak latitudinal dependence because of • large scattering
