  1. High Cholesterol By: Ninah Thao

  2. What is "high cholesterol"? • Cholesterol is a waxy substance that's found in fat(lipids) in your blood. • You body needs cholesterol to build healthy cells. But if you have high cholesterol, it can increase your risk of getting heart disease. • You can develop fatty deposits in your blood vessels if you have high cholesterol. • It will make it difficult for your oxygen-rich blood to flow through your heart and break. And if oxygen rich blood doesn't get to them, you can have a heart attack or a stroke.

  3. How do you get it? • High cholesterol can be inherited. • Eating too much saturated fat, ex. breakfast foods, beef, pork, milk, butter, and cheese. • Crackers, chips, margarine, palm oil, cocoa butter may also have a lot of saturated fat. • Being overweight can cause high cholesterol. • Being inactive can cause high cholesterol. • Smoking can also be a cause too. • If your cholesterol is higher than 200mg/dL, you have high cholesterol.

  4. How does it affect your diet? • If you have high cholesterol, you have to limit what type of foods you eat. • Avoid fatty meals, full fat dairy products, snacks, cake, and processed meats.

  5. Is there a cure? • Eat healthy and exercise daily! • Eat more fish instead of other meats, fish should be baked or poached not fried. • Use olive oil or walnut oil, they're healthier oils. • Grains like oats and oatmeal are also good at lowering your cholesterol. • Eating apples, artichokes, garlic, and onions help lower your cholesterol. • Eating more green vegetables also lower your cholesterol; ex. broccoli, spinach, lettuce, and green beans (low carb. too). • Drinking fruit juice every morning before breakfast will drastically improve your cholesterol level over time.

  6. What do you have to do with your diet to live with high cholesterol. • Watch what you eat. • It's very important to exercise. • You should jog, walk, run, swim, bike, or do aerobics daily. • To lose weight and lower your cholesterol, do cardiovascular exercises. • Don't over work yourself when it comes to exercising though. You want to start off slowly... you then, can gradually increase the intensity level of your workout.

  7. Technology & High Cholesterol • If you know you have high cholesterol, you can search up healthy low cholesterol meals online. • You can look up questions about having cholesterol or how to lower your cholesterol.

  8. Meal examples that don't raise your cholesterol. • For breakfast, you can make homemade Banana Bran Muffins or Egg White Omelet with Tomatoes. • For a snack, you can make Banana, Strawberry, and Honey Smoothie. • For lunch, you can make Zucchini Noodles. • For dinner you can make an Arugula and Goat Cheese Pizza.
