  2. Who is Carl Brashear? • Diver for the Navy • broke the racial Barrier • Has a prosthetic leg • He retired from the navy in 1979 after 30 years in the navy • The first black U.S navy diver • Click here!

  3. What did he do that was important? • Broke the racial barrier • He made history, being the first black, U.S. driver for the navy. • Never giving up, mostly when he had a prosthetic leg

  4. How does he show resilience? • Never gave up, even with his prosthetic leg; however, his leg starts to bleed. • He almost died, yet he was still in successful as a navy driver. • Brashear was struck below his left knee by a pipe that the crew was using to hoist the bomb out of the water. Brashear was airlifted to a naval hospital where the bottom of his left leg was amputated. It later was replaced with a prosthetic leg. This never stopped him from living.

  5. How is he able to be a spokesmen? Any background? • He would yell out commands, knowing how to speak. • He was a spokesmen, talking about his adventures. • On Feb 10, 2000, DC honored him to speck in front of gov. employees in the pentagon. As he did that, he explained about his struggle with his leg.
