  1. OT Violence Our purpose for this time is that at the end of the series you will see and savior God by increasing our understanding an of who He is and what He has done for us.

  2. Why so much Violence in the OT? • How would you describe the God of the OT? NT? • How would you summarize the teachings of the OT? NT? • What is recorded in the Bible and what the Bible approves are not always the same. Example: David’s adultery • Recorded does not mean condoned. • Ezekiel 18:23 • God would not have destroyed certain nations except that He is a God of justice. Jeremiah 18;1-11 • Examples of mercy: Rahab, Nineveh,-shows that whoever has repented, God has been willing to save. Canaanites and Amalekites had 400 years to repent. • God is patient, gives mercy and plenty of opportunities, if they refuse he does judge and punish. • Matthew 23, Matthew 10:34, Acts 5

  3. We must make clear that the use of God-sanctioned violence between Israel and the nations in the Old Testament is no longer God’s will for his people. The coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, as a suffering servant, rather than a warlord, and his gathering of a people from all nations rather than only one, are two of the many reas\ons why the Christian church today should not—and almost universally does not—endorse or use violence to promote the gospel of Jesus Christ.
