Delivering Real DataA view from CERN Tony CassLeader, Database Services GroupInformation Technology Department 14th April 2010 Input and/or material from Gianluigi Arduini, Roger Bailey, Massimiliano Ferro-Luzzi, Ian Fisk, Mike Lamont, Stefano Redaelli and Jorg Wenninger gratefully acknowledged

  3. Outline • We are delivering data • How did we get here? • Where to next? • What’s happening @ CERN? • Summary/Conclusion

  7. Outline • We are delivering data • But not much… • How did we get here? • Or, why so little data so far • Where to next? • Or, when will more data come? • What’s happening @ CERN? • Summary/Conclusion

  9. Physics 48 h • We can produce long fills but we did not manage to have a programmed dump yet • Beam lifetime is excellent (>100 h) • From LHC Physics Coordinator @ LMC (07/04/2010): • Accumulated order of 300 mb-1/expt • Several million inelastics on tape • Inelastic rates typically up to ~120 Hz when optimized and ~1.1e10 p/bch, small emittance • Luminosity life time seen well above 20h ! Status of LHC Operations - G. Arduini

  10. Beam commissioning strategy 2010 Global machine checkout 450 GeV re-commissioning Machine protection commissioning Ramp commissioning Establish stable safe beams at 3.5 TeV today Collisions at 3.5 TeV System/beam commissioning continuedSqueeze Collisions at 3.5 TeV squeezed Full machine protection qualification LHC report
