Lion Capital was erected in the third century BC by Emperor Ashoka to mark the spot where Buddha first proclaimed his gospel of peace and emancipation to the four quarters of the universe.

27. Pune City • Pune-the cultural capital of Maharashtra and has maintained a fine balance between modernity and an age old culture and tradition. Pune is the eighth largest metropolis in India and the second largest city in Maharashtra after Mumbai. 28. Do's & Don'ts while in India and in Pune • No dress restriction observed in Pune. Always consider the weather conditions before choosing a dress. • Local travel by rickshaws . Pay by meter as per the amount on the tariff card. • Do not accept lifts from strangers. • To dive yourself - you need a temporary and later a permanent driving license issued by the R.T.O. Pune. • Always wear a helmet. • In India we have the left-hand drive. Always get to the left side of the road when you want to turn. • To cross a road, look left-right-left and then cross. • Keep an identity card with you always with the details of your blood group, your name, address, phone number, phone numbers of your friends or guardians who can be contacted in an emergency. • Keep photocopies of documents like your passport, visa, ID card with you. • If you have rented a house keep the receipts of the rental payments. • Obtain receipts for anything you’ve spent money on. • Wi-Fi connection from any of the service providers. • For foreign currency exchange go to agencies like Thomas Cook, etc. Money changers are also available with some luxury hotels and shops at Pune. • Never carry too much cash while traveling and take care of your belongings. • Take care of your health, eat well to avoid sickness. • Go to good and clean restaurants and buy packaged drinking water. • Drink boiled water
