  1. Calo meeting – 02/05/2009 Calorimeter simulation tuning for MC09 Olivier Deschamps LPC Clermont-Fd

  2. Tuning calo parameters for simulation • Purpose • Tune calo parameters for simulation/digitisation against new G4 • Possibly sizeable changes as there is major change in EM model in G4 v8 • Which paramaters to be tuned ? • Spd threshold is defined as a fraction of MIP • Preshower ADC dynamics defined as 100 MIPs •  condDB parameters used at the digitization level •  both depend on the actual MIP deposit in MeV • Ecal and Hcal activeToTotal ratio •  Used in Boole to convert MC total energy deposit into ADC • ADC = (ActiveToTotal * visibleEnergy)/Gain • Parameters to be set as conditions in condDB (XCal/Calibration/Gain.xml) 2

  3. Available MC • MC validation sample • Use PGUN pions and electrons • Various energies from 100 MeV to 168 GeV • 3 configurations : • MC2008 : LHEP + EM option1 + DRay off + KineHT • MC2008HT : LHEP + EM option1 + DRay on + KineHT • MC2008LT : LHEP + EM option1 + DRay on + KineLT • LHEP parameterised modeling of hadronic interactions (G4) • EM option1 EM processes using parameters optimised for better CPU performance at the cost slightly less precise physics (G4) • DRay off production cuts as follow: e- 10 km, e+ 5 mm, gamma 10 mm (G4) • DRay on production cuts as follow: e- 5 mm, e+ 5 mm, gamma 5 mm (G4) • KineHT tracking cuts (kinetic E) as follow: hadrons/mu+/mu- 10 MeV, e+/e-/gamma 1 MeV, others none (Gauss) • KineLT tracking cuts (kinetic E) as follow: hadrons/mu+/mu- 1 MeV, e+/e-/gamma 0.1 MeV, others none (Gauss) • Apply a minimal selection on PGUN particles: • no showering before calo • small deposit in Hcal when looking electrons into Ecal • small deposit in Ecal when looking pions into HCal 2

  4. MIP deposit DC06 MC2008 deposit (MeV) • MIP peak position in Prs/Spd scintillator plane : 2.74 MeV • Increased by 17% wrt to DC06 (was 2.35 MeV) •  Prs dynamics in condDB : 235 -> 274 MeV •  keep Spd threshold unchanged in condDB ~ 0.6 MIP (~0.7 MIP in DC06) 3

  5. Prs visible energy PGUN electron 34 GeV (MC2008) Gauss v24r1 <Evis> = 0.14 GeV DC06 <Evis> = 0.16 GeV DC04 • Increase of the Prs • visible energy ~ +14% wrt to DC06 4

  6. ActiveToTotal for Ecal 2008 2008HT 2008LT • Evis = a Etot (+b) • a-1 provides the ActiveToTotal ratio for condDB • b non consistent with 0 due to energy loss before Ecal Ecal Total/Active decreases by 15% wrt to DC06 5

  7. ActiveToTotal for Hcal 2008 2008HT 2008LT Hcal Total/Active decreases by 30% wrt to DC06 6

  8. Summary • New condDB parameters for MC2008/2009 • significant change wrt DC06 in MIP deposit and Xcal visible energy • use ‘mc2008’ configuration as standard to update ActiveToTotal ratio • and Prs dynamics range in conDB • condDB update with the new value • A 2nd round of validation sample is being produced with the new setting • electron/pion/photon/pi0 with no material in front of Calo • will allow more detailed analysis and check the value are OK • Also produced : some reference channel for tuning reconstruction and PID • Rhopi / PhiGamma / J/Psi(ee,mm)Phi • Next to be checked/re-tuned • photon/electron reconstruction parameters : S-shape, fine energy correction • calo PID reference PDF • To be done with new MC data produced with the correct energy scale 7
