  1. NSK Concert Choir & Concert Band New York City Tour 2010

  2. Tour History • In 2002, the North Kossuth High School band took a trip to Denver, Colorado • March 27th-30th, 2002 • 2 Concerts • Cost was $320 per person • In 2005, the North Kossuth High School band took a trip to Washington D.C. • Spring of 2005 • Marched in parade • Cost was about $800 per person • Sentral has not taken music trips in the past

  3. Goals • Perform in a wide variety of venues • Gain an appreciation for a different culture climate • View and tour historical landmarks • Have the experience of a lifetime!

  4. Why Take a Trip? • Our ensembles tour for several reasons: • Opportunity to perform in venues outside of our gym • Opportunities to see historical sites and venues that we have not seen before • Trips are educational, rewarding, and a great motivational tool • Trips are also a great recruitment tool for the music department

  5. Why New York City? • We narrowed our options to New York City in the spring of 2008 • New York City provides a great deal of culture, education, and history. Students will be performing in some of the same places they have only before read about. • New York City provides a plethora of performance venues and sight-seeing opportunities

  6. Who is Eligible? • All students in Concert Choir and/or Concert Band are eligible for this trip • Must be in band and/or choir for at least two full semesters before the trip • Latest a student can join and still be eligible is second semester of the 2008-2009 school year • Chaperones will be chosen at the discretion of the directors and the music boosters • Goal of one chaperone for every five students

  7. Tour Companies • We priced 6 different tour companies. The music boosters narrowed our search down to two companies. • Based on the prices given and recommendations from several other directors, we chose Good News Tour & Travel

  8. Good News Tour & Travel • We have been in contact via e-mail and phone since the beginning of September. • Excellent company with impeccable references • Based out of St. Paul, MN • Our contact person is Corinne Grubar. Corinne has been with the company for 17 years • Corinne is here tonight to answer any questions from parents

  9. Performance Opportunities • Plenty of performance opportunities for both band and choir • These locations include: • Liberty Island • United Nations • The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine • The Sports Museum of America • Other performance opportunities can be added or subtracted as we go along

  10. Sightseeing Opportunities • Sightseeing opportunities are endless! • Statue of Liberty • Ellis Island • Sports Museum of America • United Nations • Times Square • Rockefeller Center • NBC Studios • Apollo theater • This is not an exhaustive list. Things can be added or subtracted according to the needs and wants of our group

  11. Cost • Preliminary cost of flying is $1,088 per person. • Preliminary cost of driving (Motor coach) is $879 per person • These are projected costs. Costs will fluctuate based on number of students attending, gas prices, how early we book airfare, hotel, etc. • These are payable in installments (negotiated with the travel company)

  12. Offsetting the Cost • Students have the opportunity to have their entire trip paid for. • Several fund raisers will be held (with administrative approval). • Each student has an “account” within the music boosters account. For each fundraiser, the student receives half of whatever they earn • Ex: Tyler sells $300 worth of merchandise • At 40%, this means the boosters receive $120 • Student receives half or $60 for their “account”
