Rationale behind the Use of the VI's Materials • The materials are very relevant to globalization era where more emphasis is needed on the role of trade, policy and FDI in economic development • Written by highly qualified and trusted experts • Providing up-to-date information and specialized resources that are suitable for universities teaching and research activities

  3. Rationale: continued • Provide diversified and flexible teaching and research tools including books, reports, case studies, manuals, videos, and DVDs • Sharing the experience of other universities • Easily accessible resources at very low cost

VI's Material Usage at JU • Good Library of printed and electronic materials available for both faculties and graduate students • Many of the materials are incorporated in textbooks authored by faculties (in international trade and policy, and international finance) • Enriching the department academic plans in line of the new available specialized materials • Provide multiple usage for graduate students as references, cases of study and source of selecting research topics for their dissertations

Usage at JU continued • Primary and supplementary readings for several courses in the department: including international economics, international finance, trade policy, competitiveness, economic development, special topics in economics for graduates, and international monetary and financial systems. • Useful references and data sources for both faculties and graduates research

  6. Usage at JU continued • An important source of data about world trade and capital flows and investment • Used by faculties to prepare for seminars and workshops and other academic activities: topics include regional trade flows, FDI, and macroeconomic and trade policies.

Advantages/disadvantages • Many of the materials is ready to use for teaching, training and research • Provides instructors with choices between printed materials and ready CD's and videos • Provides high quality teaching and research resources at low costs • The videos and electronic materials can help in preparing quick seminars and presentations • Some materials need to be adjusted to fit the appropriate level and task • Requires some times adding local contents and adaptations

  8. Future plans • Expanding the usage of the materials by: • Further promoting and publicizing the materials and the VI’s web site to both faculties and graduates • Planning more workshops and seminars using some of the VI's materials • Introducing new courses related to the materials:

Future plans: continued • We have already introduced competitiveness at both undergraduate and graduate levels • We plan to offer a new course on quantitative methods for trade-policy • The department restructuring resulted in a new program in international business management which offer new courses in international trade management, research methods for international trade
