  3. GPS • Global Positioning System • 24 satellites on Earth orbit • A GPS receiver calculates its position by measuring the distance between itself and three or more GPS satellites

History • The first cache is from 3rd May 2000, by Dave Ulmer • The idea: Hide a container out in the woods and note the coordinates with a GPS unit • The rules for the finder were simple: "Take some stuff, leave some stuff„ • On September 2, 2000 there were 75 known caches in the world, now there are hundreds of thousands caches over the World

Geocaches • Cache is typically consist of a waterproof container discreetly placed within the local terrain, • logbook, pen or pencil, • and more or less valuable items such as toys, books, money, jewelry, trinkets, etc. • Coordinates with other details of the location, are posted on a website

  6. Basic Types Of Geocaches • Traditional • Microcache (see on right) • Regular (see on right) • Etc. • Multi-cache • Mystery • Virtual • Webcam • Event Cache • Cache-In Trash-Out

  7. Travelbug And Geocoin • A Travelbug is a dogtag used in Geocaching. It is moved from cache to cache, and its travels can be logged on a website • A Geocoin is similar to Travelbug

  8. Ethics And Rules • Fill out the logbook • Take something out of the cache • Put something in the cache • Return the cache to the exact position and condition in which it was found

Finding A Cache • After you get the coordinates online, enter them into your GPS • Take some friends with you, at first it is safety, and second it’s funnier • At final coordinates carefully explore nearest surround for probably shelters • If you are lucky, you find our treasure, log your visit and if you can, make some trade. • Explosives, ammo, knives, drugs, foodand alcohol shouldn't be placed in a cache

  10. Hiding a cache • First, you need a container • Make sure to mark your cache so that someone who doesn't play can figure out what it is. More info is better than less • Next, you'll need a logbook and a pen • When you reach the location to place your cache, get exact coordinates from your GPS unit • Write something about cache, or place where cache is placed, and publish these details on the web • Once you place the cache, it is your responsibility to maintain the cache and the area around it
