  1. In order to become good readers, children need to use the 3 cuing systems: • Graphophonic: • Visual • Does it look right? • 2. Syntax: • Structure • Does it sound right? • 3. Semantics: • Meaning • Does it make sense?

  2. COMPREHENSION • Story Elements: • main character • setting • problem and solution • beginning, middle and end • Summarize as they go • Connections: What does this make you think of? What was your favorite part and why? • Ask questions to check for understanding • DRA: Start at the beginning and tell me what happened in this story.

  3. WORD WORK • Sight words (spelling and quickly reading) • Using letter tiles • Sight word tic tac toe
