  2. Did you know?: • The 25% of the population in China with the highest IQ is greater than the population of North America • China has more kids on their school’s honor rolls than we have kids In North America • China will soon become the largest English speaking nation in the world

  3. Did you know?: • That according to the US Department of Labour that today’s young learners will hold down between 10 and 14 jobs during their working life • That by the age of 38 that one of four of those workers will be at a job that they have held for less than a year • That the top 10 jobs today did not exist in 2004 • That 1 out of 8 couples who married in 2008 met online • That there are more than 2-billion Google searches each month

  4. Did you know?: • That there will be more new information generated this year alone than has accumulated in the past 5000 years • New technical information is doubling every 2 years and that before the end of 2010 that rate will be doubling every 72 hours • That it is predicted that within 30 years there will be a supercomputer that will exceed the computation ability of the human race

  5. So, For all of us there can be only one objective: Enhance Learning Opportunities for all students today

  6. Change formula: N + V + A > C&P N = compelling NEED for change V = VISION of a preferred future A = belief in the ABILITY to change Together these must be greater than: C&P = COST & PAIN required for change

  7. Issues for 2010/2011 MSC: • New attendance zoning for all off-island elementary schools • Improved French Language Programs at elementary and secondary schools • Rationalize school network by new and exciting program options / school closures / cohabitation / repurposing

  8. Time Line: • Internal Study & Review - January 2008 to January 2009 • Town Halls – January & February 2009 • Council & Admin Workshops February & March 2009 • MSC Launch March 30, 2009 • M S C Consultation Meetings April – November 2009 • Written Briefs submitted by October 31, 2009

  9. Time Line (cont’d): Public Hearings November 2009: November 17, 2009 L C C H S November 18, 2009 Westwood Jr November 19, 2009 J R H S Decision(s) at the regular Council of Commissioners meeting of December 21, 2009 Changes, if any, take effect July 1, 2010 for the school year 2010 / 2011
