  1. Welcome to our Language Arts Class Mrs. Prindible-Smith Room 216

  2. About Me • I earned my Bachelors Degree at Sam Houston State University and then recently earned my Masters in Education Administration at Lamar University. • I am married to Captain Pete Smith, a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine Officer, Professional Fishing Guide and Custom Fishing Rod Builder. I have two wonderful sons: Keith (30) lives in Houston and Todd (20) lives at home still as he is pursuing his education. We live in Wimberley about 30 minutes away. • I enjoy traveling, boating, swimming, cliff jumping, fishing, whitewater rafting, sledding, photography, and watching wildlife. I am a very active person. I am very committed to providing your child with the best possible educational experience. It is going to be a great year!

  3. You are Important! • You are a key part of your child’s educational success. • Your encouragement, diligence, and assistance helps your child to succeed both academically and in life. • It takes a team effort: student, parent, and school to successfully educate your child. • We appreciate all your support.

  4. Philosophy We understand that your child comes to us with unique experiences, interests and learning styles. Our goal is to truly know your child well and use this knowledge to guide, support and motivate him or her. We believe that good teaching requires continual professional development, personal reflection and collaboration. As a team working together (student, teacher, and parent/guardian), we can guide and assist your student to achieve their highest potential and have a rewarding learning experience

  5. Things You Can Do At Home To Help Your Child At School: • Read with your child, allow them to read to you, and discuss the books they are reading in and outside of class. • Take an interest in your child and ask them what they are learning. • Make sure they get enough sleep. • Sign up for and check Parent Portal. • Keep your phone and email records current with the school.

  6. Things You Can Do At Home To Help Your Child At School: • Set limits on the amount of TV, video, computer, and gaming use. Research shows that people sleep better if they turn off all electronics 1 hour prior to sleeping. • Make sure they have enough to eat. (We have a breakfast and lunch program available.) • Volunteer at Chapa or just come visit our classes and during family events.

  7. Balanced Literacy – What does it mean? • We learn to read from writers and we learn to write from reading. • Best teaching practices include direct teaching, modeling, discussing, and implementing or doing independently.

  8. English/Language Arts • We start each day with a warm up. • We have a direct teach where we utilize a text to learn a concept. • We discuss and analyze our learning • We independently apply what we learned to demonstrate mastery of the concept. This is what your child is graded on.

  9. Pay attention during teacher modeling Read 30 minutes every night Turn in their BEST work on time Follow directions Write legibly and neat Respect each other, property, and the learning environment at all times.
