  3. This may be one of your responsibilities as a health care worker. • The health care worker must be sensitive to the patients needs & respects the patients right to privacy while personal care is administered. APC

  4. Usually includes bathing, back care, perineal care, oral hygiene, hair care, nail care, and shaving when necessary. • Its promotes good habits of personal hygiene, provides comfort, & stimulates circulation. Personal Hygiene

  5. This is care of the mouth & teeth. • Should be administered at least three times a day. • Should be administered more often, usually at least every two hours. • Proper oral hygiene prevents disease & dental caries, stimulates the appetite, & provides comfort. Oral hygiene

Steps: • Obtain proper authorization & assemble equipment. • Knock on the door & pause before entering, introduce yourself, identify the patient, explain the procedure to the patient. • Close the door & screen the unit to provide privacy. • Wash hands, if necessary put on gloves.   7. 5. Elevate the bed to a comfortable working height. 6. Loosen the patients bed clothes 7. Take off the soiled clothing one sleeve at a time. 8. Unfold the clean gown or pajama top and place it over the patient. 9. Put the patient’s arm into the sleeves one at a time. Continued Steps…

  8. 10. Pull the body of the gown down over the patient or position the pajama top correctly. 11. Tie the tapes or ties on the gown, or button the buttons on the pajama top. 12. If the patient is wearing pajamas, put on the pants after the pajama top. Gently ease the pants over the feet and up the legs. Continued steps…

  9. 13. Observe all checkpoints before leaving the patient: position the patient comfortably and in good body alignment; elevate the side rails. 14. Place a soiled hospital gown in the laundry hamper or bag. 15. Remove gloves, if worn. Wash hands thoroughly. 16. Report that the patients gown has been changed and/or recorded all required information on the patient’s chart pajamas changed, and your signature and title. Continued steps…
