  3. School Hours • School starts at 8:30 am. • Dismissal is at 2:50 pm.

  4. School Supplies When your child arrives on Wednesday they need to have the following: • Backpack (remember we will not have lockers) • 3 ring binder (Separate one for Science)- To be kept neat, current, and brought to class daily, periodic notebook quizzes will be completed • Notebook paper • Pencils/Mechanical pencils and extra lead- lead will not be provided by Mr. Mitchell • Highlighter • Red ink pen

  5. What makes the transition to middle school difficult? • academic demands tend to be tougher than in elementary school • middle schools tend to be larger than elementary schools • students are accountable to different teachers in each subject • often students leave behind one group of friends to mix with a new group • students move from being the oldest students in their environment to being the youngest • behavioral standards are different than among elementary students

  6. Transition for Parents • meet the school teachers, principal, counselor, and others who work with their children • help their children navigate around the new school; a different building may be intimidating at first • make sure their children understand that they are held responsible for knowing school rules and following them • help their children realize that inappropriate actions in school have consequences • know their children's friends, and help them choose friends intelligently • foster engagement in school activities • make sure homework is being completed

  7. So What Does Your Child Need to Be Successful At NorthView IB Candidate School? • Responsibility • Organization • Self-motivation

  8. Teacher Expectations • These of course follow the school rules and additional expectations are outlined in “Mr. Mitchell’s Expectations” found on Mr. Mitchell’s Webpage.

  9. Mr. Mitchell’s 3 R’s • Respect-Show at all times to yourself and others • Responsibility-Make the right choices and be ready to accept the consequences whether positive or negative • Reach-Keep your sights aimed high and if remember that you have to struggle a little before you grow!

  10. Late/Make-Up Work If a student turns in an assignment after the class period that it is due, 10 points will be subtracted for each day it is late. After the third day the highest a student can make on the assignment is a 70. After report cards have been printed, make up work will not be accepted. If a student is absent, they have five days to receive full credit for their work, after that, the above policy is in effect for late work.

  11. HotChalk • We will be using Hotchalk.com in class as our virtual classroom. Each student will create an account and will be responsible for submitting projects using Hotchalk throughout the year. Parents are encouraged to join their students’ accounts by the tab located inside their student’s account.

  12. Mitchell Memo • I try to send out an e-letter once a week to let parents what will be happening in the upcoming week, tests, projects, or important announcements. If you would like for me to add you to my contact list, please email me indicating that as well as your child’s name and block number, so that I get your correct address.
