  2. Seamless Summer Option • Must complete on-line application by May 1, 2013 • Must meet the criteria for operating a Seamless Summer Program

  3. Seamless Summer Option • All Meals are served free of charge to children 18 years of age and younger, or 19 and older with a physical/mental disability defined by the state • Meal Service Requirement: same as NSLP, SBP, or Snack (AM or PM) • Reimbursement rate: “Free Rate”

  4. Seamless Summer Option Meal Period Options • Only 2 types of meals may be served • Select two: Breakfast, Lunch, Snack AM, Snack PM • Exception to the RULE: • Migrants and Summer Camps may serve 3 types of meals • Select three types of meals from the list above • Supper can be included for Migrant & Summer Camps only.

  5. Seamless Summer Option Open Site: All children eat for free at a site located within the geographical boundaries of the attendance area of a school where at least 50% of the children are eligible for free or reduced price school meals • First-come, first-serve basis • Summer school

  6. Seamless Summer Option Restricted Open Sites: • Site that meets the open site criteria but are later restricted due to safety, control or security • Site must be approved by State with legitimate reasoning.

  7. Seamless Summer Option Closed Enrolled Sites: • May be in any community for an enrolled group of low-income children and meets the 50% criteria explained above • Excludes academic summer school

  8. Seamless Summer Option Migrant Sites: serving children of migrant families through age 18 • Can opt for 3 meal types to be served

  9. Seamless Summer Option Camps • Residential or non-residential camps • Can only claim campers who qualify for free or reduced priced meal benefits • Campers qualifying for paid meals may not be claimed for reimbursement • 3 meal types may be served

  10. Seamless Summer Option Meal service locations: • Schools • Camps • Churches • Community Centers • Housing projects • Libraries • Migrant centers • Parks • Playgrounds • Pools • Other public sites where children gather

  11. Seamless Summer Option Times of Operation: • May-September: Traditional school calendar areas • October-April: During unexpected school closures (i.e. emergencies). Must be served at different location than affected school. • During student vacations for schools on continuous year calendar who are out for 10 or more school days

Seamless Summer Option How can meals be served to students where the site does not qualify for Seamless Summer Options? • Extension of the Traditional School Program may be requested if <50% of students qualify for free/reduced meal benefits • Only meal types approved for the regular school year may be served

  13. Seamless Summer Option 6 cent Reimbursement: • Only SSO lunches are eligible for the 6 cent reimbursement rate. • SSO meals must follow the current school meal pattern. • SSO Breakfast will follow the SY 12-13 meal pattern.
