  1. Welcome to English/Honors 10Parker – M203 Please make sure that your schedule says E. Parker M203. Find your name beside the correct period and have a seat. Begin the Bellringer Work that is written on the board. If your name is NOT on a card/table, have a seat in one of the chairs aligned in the back. Don’t panic!

  2. Who is Mrs. Parker? • She has 15 years certified teaching experience. • She loves teaching (especially, writing). • Although she graduated from NHS, she has taught at DHS for 14 years. • She says what she means, and means what she says! • She does not give grades, she records them!

  3. What bothers Mrs. Parker… • Laziness! • Whining! • Excessive Absences! • Tardies! • Interruptions! • Dishonesty!

  4. DO NOT… • bring any edible item into the class. • use your cell phone in this class, unless instructed to do so by Parker/Jackson. • come out of dress code. • come with a note from anyone expecting to gain entrance after the tardy bell. • ask to leave the class unless it is a dire emergency! • sit in the lounge area unless you are given permission. • enter Mrs. Parker’s office unless you are given permission to do so. • sit on tabletops or rock in the chairs.

What will we do in this class this year? • W-O-R-K! • This course is strictly aligned to the new Common Core State Standards. • There will be a lot of reading! • You will read approximately ten novels; some will read more! • There will be a lot of writing! • You will write routinely weekly – LEARN TO LOVE IT!

What a typical week looks like in Mrs. Parker’s class… • Monday Grammar Work, Literature Selection, and Vocabulary • Tuesday QuickWrite via Moodle, Grammar and Literature Work, and Vocabulary • Wednesday Grammar , Literature, and Vocabulary Sentences • Thursday QuickWrite via Moodle, Grammar Quiz/Test, Literature Quiz/Test, and Vocabulary Activity • Friday Vocabulary Test

  7. WHAT ARE MRS.PARKER’S EXPECTATIONS? • BE PREPARED! • BE RESPONSIBLE! • BE RESPECTFUL!

  8. CLASSROOM SUPPLIES • BINDER • LOOSELEAF PAPER • BLUE /BLACK INK ONLY ! Pencils can only be used for scantron tests! • USB FLASH DRIVE (3GB or higher) • 1st period – 1 roll of paper towels • 2nd period – 1 box of Kleenex • 4th period – 1 bottle of Lysol or Clorox wipes • 5th period – 1 pack of Plug-in refills • 6th period - 1 pack of Plug-in refills • 7th period – 1 bottle of hand sanitizer

  9. Starbucks Classroom (Digitally driven) • 90% of your assignments will be submitted electronically. • You will be given several passwords to remember for the year. • You will be assigned a computer to pick up upon entry into the class each day. • You will be responsible for that computer each day. • You are only allowed to use that computer. • You will only receive ONE warning. (The paper option is never the route you want to go – Trust Me!)

  10. What if I don’t have computer access at home??? • The majority of the assignments can be completed in your class time frame if you use it wisely. • The DHS Media Center opens daily at 7:00 a.m. and closes at 4:00 p.m. • Mrs. Parker is always on campus by 7:15 each morning. • She has morning duty each Monday! • Make an appointment before you just show up.

  11. what if I am absent? • Remember, BE RESPONSIBLE! If you know you are going to be out ahead of time, alert Mrs. Parker/Mrs. Jackson. It is your responsibility to get your make up work, NOT your teacher’s/teachers! • You have 5 class days to make up missed work after an excused absence. • You should check your email for your missed work. If you do not get an email, you should email Mrs. Parker or Mrs. Jackson. • DO NOT come early and ask what you missed. • DO NOT ask what you missed at the door. • DO NOT trust your friend or table partner to share.
