  1. Warm Up- January 26, 2011 1. What role does government stability have on the fight against AIDS in Africa? A. Governments play no role in the fight against AIDS. B. The United Nations has taken over the treatment of AIDS in Africa. C. AIDS is a minor problem in Africa that is under control. D. Stable governments are better able to fight the spread of AIDS. What is an impact of government instability on combating AIDS and famine in Africa? A      No other countries are willing to help. B       Citizens receive better education on preventing AIDS from the government. C      The instability is helping to bring more attention to AIDS prevention. DIt is difficult to distribute resources appropriately.

  2. Standards SS7CG3The student will analyze how politics in Africa impacts the standard of living. a. Compare how various factors, including gender, affect access to education in Kenya and Sudan. b. Describe the impact of government stability on the distribution of resources to combat AIDS and famine across Africa.

  4. Essential Question EQ: What is the impact of government stability on the distribution of resource to combat AIDS and famine across Africa? EQ: How does gender affect access to education in Sudan and Kenya?

  5. Work Period • Collaborative Learning Activity: Partner Notes- You and a partner read paragraph notes to each other. When your partner reads, you fill in your missing information and when you read, your partner completes their missing information. After you finish, both you and your partner will have a complete set of notes on Politics and Standard of Living in Africa.

  6. Let’s assess what we learned! We will take weekly quiz to determine strengths and weaknesses on the standards that have been taught. Do your best! Please do not write on the actual quiz. You will submit your answers using the I-Respond system.

Students will have to know what standard their concept correlates to and answer questions to justify how they are an expert on that standard’s concept. 1. What makes you an expert? 2.
