  2. HIGH SCHOOL: The Basics What is a Transcript? • A transcript is a cumulative permanent record. It lists all courses taken in high school and the grades received. • Colleges will use transcripts to help determine what kind of college student your child will be. • A transcript includes GPA and class rank. • Freshman year grades are part of the GPA. • Class rank is determined by GPA. • By the end of the school year, a student can earn a total of 8 credits.

  3. If students fail an academic course, they will have to repeat that course before they will receive credit. IF IT IS 9TH LIT, MATH I, OR BIOLOGY THEY WILL BE CONSIDERED A 9TH GRADER AND IN A 9TH GRADE HOMEROOM AGAIN. A failing grade will appear on a student’s transcript forever. It will not be removed even if the course is repeated and the student receives a passing grade. A 90-100 B 80-89 C 74-79 D 70-73 F 69 & below GRADING SYSTEM

  4. GRADE POINT AVERAGE • GPA is the numeric average of all grades calculated on a 4.0 scale • GPA scale: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0 • The higher the grades, the higher the GPA • Failing a course or getting a low grade will lower a student’s GPA… study hard!

  13. Honors & AP Courses • It is highlyrecommended that students who wish to obtain admission to a selective 4-year college take Honors and AP level courses in high school. • An AP course is the highest level course that a student can take while in high school. AP courses are taught at the college level. • Students in AP courses have the opportunity to take an AP exam at the end of the course, which may allow them to earn college credit.
