  17. Chief Executive • In the Planning Inspectorate, we pride ourselves on our reputation for integrity, principles of openness, impartiality and fairness. Those principles continue to stand us in good stead but we must ensure that the context in which we apply them remains up-to-date and relevant to the society, in which we live and work. • The reform agenda, to which the UK Government is so strongly committed and which it set out in last year’s “A Vision for Communities”, emphasises that we need a planning system which is open, transparent and in which everyone is encouraged to participate freely and fully. • This is a challenge to which we intend to respond positively. Both in the way in which we conduct our business and how we relate to our external customers, we need to engage with people from all backgrounds in a manner which respects and understands the diversity which is an integral part of our society. .

  18. Diversity Champion • “I feel that everybody has the right to be treated with dignity and respect, not because it is a privilege but an absolute right to deserve nothing less.” • And it is right for the business
