Today’s Attractions • Revision of numbers: 0-59 • Revision on asking what facilities are available and how to find them • Understanding basic directions and/or asking for help to understand • Telling the time in Greek • Finding about the opening and closing times of various facilities • Understand Greek money • Asking for something in a shop saying how much you want and asking how much it costs • Watch a relevant movie in Greek

  3. ‘Directions Activity’ • the aim of the 1st activity is to establish which of the places on the list feature on the map. • After checking which places you have on your map, circulate asking each other the question : • Συγνώμη, υπάρχει (τράπεζα) εδώ; (Sorry, is there a bank here?) • using all the other places from your list and answering according to your map: • Ναι υπάρχει / Συγνώμη, δεν ξέρω • (Yes, there is / I am sorry, I do not know)

  5. ‘Directions Activity’ • the objectives of the 2nd activity are to practice of: • ‘Where is?’ • the singular definite article • reading and pronunciation • A: Συγνώμη, που είναι (η τράπεζα); (Sorry, where is the bank?) • B: Είναι στηv οδό (Κρήτης) (It’s on [Κρήτης]street)

  10. “Relative Directions” Activity Working in pairs take turns to ask each other where the places on the map are, using the list, and answer along the following lines, according to the information you have on your map: A: Συγγνώμη που είναι (…); B: Συγγνώμη δεν ξέρω (…) είναι δίπλα/κοντά στο(ν)/στη(ν)/στο (…) (…) είναι απέναντι από το(ν)/τη(ν)/το (…) A: Σας ευχαριστώ πολύ Please note that each of the four corner places on the map should be described as being near to the other three places in that part of the map

  13. Telling the time in Greek • Telling the time is not difficult. You just have to remember that in Greek we put first the hour and then the minutes: • ten (minutes) past five • Πέντε και δέκα (λεπτά) • When telling the time, the numbers 1,3,4 change to: 1-> μία, 3 -> τρεις, 4 -> τέσσερις

  19. ‘Telling the time’ Activity • A: Τι ώρα ανοίγει (ο φούρνος); • Ti ora anigi (o furnos)? • What time does it open? Or: Τι ώρα κλείνει (η τράπεζα); • Ti ora klini (i trapeza)? • What time does it close? • B: (Ο φούρνος) ανοίγει στις επτά και μισήτο πρωί • (O furnos) anigi stis epta ke misi to proi • It opens at 7:30am Or: (Η τράπεζα) κλείνει στις δυο και μισή το μεσημέρι • (i trapeza) klini stis THio ke misi to mesimeri It closes at 2:30pm

Asking how much it costs? • Πόσο κάνει/κοστίζει αυτό; (poso kani/ kostizi afto?) • How much is it? • Κάνει / κοστίζει 6 ευρώ (kani exi evro) • It’s 6 euros • Πόσο κάνουν(ε) / κοστίζουν αυτά (poso kanune/ kostizoon afta?) • How much are they? • Κάνουν(ε) / κοστίζουν 8 ευρώ και 50 λεπτά (kanune ochto evro ke peninda lepta) • They are 8 euros and 50.
